Pros

The great thing, the only "Pro" about working here was having the ability to interact with people who needed me. The families I served were always dear to me. Whether coming to meet me at a time of immediate need, or before the need arose, I tried to treat them like they were my own family. I treated every family like it was MY money they were spending, helping them achieve THEIR goals without concern for how it affected me. Just being in an industry where that is possible is what made the negative aspects worth enduring (up to a point).

Cons

The "cons" ... VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING ELSE! There have been multiple and puzzling management and ownership changes, most recently by a CANADIAN publicly traded company, which can make for tricky water to navigate, especially if you're not gifted in the art of butt-kissing . You can see that the only people who rise to the top of such organizations are heartless suits (or sometimes cowboy boots) who, unfortunately, have lost whatever sense of customer service they may have had (if in fact they ever had it in the first place). If you are somebody who genuinely loves people and wants to do something that "really matters", don't come to work here, because, despite all of the talk, they won't really value that here. Don't listen to the talk. Talk is cheap. Watch what they DO. You know a tree by its fruit. Understanding that this company's only presence in MICHIGAN is in the CEMETERY business, a huge amount of neglect or lack of concern exists over ALL of the following: 1. GROUNDS - They pay their crew next to nothing, so it shouldn't come as a huge shock that it's difficult to find people who can think independently, are genuinely mindful of and proud of the work that they perform, and go out of their way to please families. In most of the cities where they have cemeteries, Unemployment rates are practically non-existent. In towns where anybody who wants to find work can find factory jobs that pay $15+ per hour, who do they think they are going to find for $11???? 2. ADMINISTRATION - Same here... 20 year employees working in Admin can be found making $12 or $13 per hour. Seriously? These people work their butts off, while the company tells them each week what they really think of them (in the form of their meager paycheck) 3. SALES - Recent huge reductions in sales commissions were presented as necessary adjustments in order to get back to "making money". Really? The real concern here should be, WHY, in the face of markups that border on being "criminal", would they be losing money? If you are contemplating working here, in any capacity whatsoever, my advice is, "keep looking". You can't possibly be desperate enough to accept a job here. Whether you sell, work with your hands, or work in an office, your skills will pay you more virtually anywhere else.
