Pros

Travel the world at minimal cost to you - you get to go places you would probably never afford on a regular pay from whichever country you live in. Ideal job for a person without a family at home.

Cons

I worked for PW for 2 years. You're cannon fodder to management. If you don't do as they say, there are 80+ other people to get trained and start this job every 1,5-2 months. I left because of a medical emergency, and they retained $800 from my account, wouldn't answer my emails for months, and eventually replied "You didn't give us due notice as per your contract (8 weeks)". How could someone give 8 weeks notice if they suddenly fall ill? All they care about is revenue & sales. 17-21 hours of work almost every day. Taking all kinds of rudeness and mocking from your auctioneer. You also have to "steal" the way you have to work, nobody teaches you, let alone allow you to even touch the laptops (that you need for work) when you're new. Small teams on ships, which makes it very hard physical work. I lost a toenail from standing and walking long hours every day in high heels (requested by auctioneer - I wanted to wear flats). You have to work hard to advance, and kiss up to the right people. If they don't like you, and your auctioneer doesn't like you - tough luck.

Wearing heels is not a necessity and we have updated our training preparation and packing guide to ensure women pack comfortable dress flats to wear with a suit or dress, and heels only if you wish. We have placed a greater emphasis than ever on more management training over the past two years and we require written evaluations from staff of their manager onboard to avoid situations like yours. If this person is still working for the art team onboard, we wish to know so we may take the proper steps, as this behavior is not tolerated. Pros

Working for Park West on both cruise ships and for VIP events has been an incredible experience. When you first start, the company provides amazing training that helps set you up for success. You will travel all over the world (on ships) or across the US to many major cities (VIP) and the job allows you to see amazing places. I have traveled to more countries and cities than most will ever do in their lifetime just through my career with Park West. The job itself is genuinely fun - it's not just standing around, we sell in live, fast-paced auction environments which keeps things constantly new and exciting and no day is ever the same. The actual sales part is also rewarding - we're not just selling retail 'products' - many of our collectors buy the artwork because it means something to them or they've had the chance to meet the artist directly and it's truly rewarding to be a part of that experience.

Cons

Working long contracts on ships can be tough (working 7 days a week) where you are away from home and your family often time over holidays. However if you go into this job understanding and prepared for this aspect the reward is unbelievable. You may work very long hours on days at sea however the next day you may only work a few hours after spending all day exploring incredible parts of the world in Europe or Asia. There is also quite a lot of travel involved on the VIP side however nowhere near as much time away from home as on the ships. Although the travel can be tiring, if you don't want a traditional 9-5 office job then this is a great role and opportunity!
