Life onboard cruise ships, especially during sea days, can be intense—those are your main working days, often involving early mornings (sometimes as early as 5:00 AM), several hours of setup, auctions, checkouts, and follow-ups. In the beginning, if you don’t have a system in place, the workload can feel overwhelming. But if you focus on learning, establishing efficient routines, and training your team well, it becomes much more manageable—and even enjoyable. The role requires strong self-discipline. It’s not ideal for someone who prefers to stay in one place or needs a lot of personal downtime. On a ship, your colleagues and the crew become your day-to-day community and your extended family. Cruise ship life operates by its own set of rules and structure—it’s a different world. But if you can adapt, the personal and professional growth is immense. Over four years at sea, I had the opportunity to visit more than 60 countries. Think about that: in just a few years, you gain not only work experience with the world’s largest art dealer—but also life experiences most people only dream of.
