Pros

Partnership is a great aspect of working with Paychex and what has kept me here. Being able to refer your partners who handle other products (and vice versa), with a 30% referral commission, is an effective incentive and helps sales reps to work smarter, not harder. It also allows sales reps to take more of a consultative approach when working with clients.

Cons

Every fiscal year, it seems, Paychex is trying to reinvent the wheel by adopting drastic changes to market segmentation, territory, and commission structure. The commission structure in particular has been the most alarming. This recent fiscal year,of course quotas go up (it was substantial this year) but commission percentage has also decreased. In addition, they raised the benchmark for hitting higher multipliers. That, coupled with the decrease in commission and huge increase in quota, has been a complete shock. Also, veterans have much higher quotas than "rookies" do. Basically, you feel penalized the longer you stick around. Also, the customer service for our clients is atrocious. It has lost me numerous sales from clients who have lost all faith in Paychex.

Pros

Paychex is a great company to work for. I’ve held multiple roles over 20+ years. There are always ups and downs, but for every position, manager, decision I disagree with, there are ten others that are outstanding.

Cons

It’s a large company with many opportunities to grow, but smaller companies may offer higher compensation.

Pros

Remote work is a plus. Collaboration from peers is more plus than minus. Documentation of business technology was great for the most part.

Cons

Worse holiday observance company I ever worked for. Pay is low for what is asked. Work/life balance was good until 2025. Mid-level leadership and above is not ideal. I had little guidance when I started so, especially from manager so had to figure things out with help of peers.
