Pros

The culture first, its one of acceptance, treating each other with grace, doing the right thing above all else, and giving back to the community. In a culture like this its hard to find bad managers. There are certainly personality clashes as there are everywhere, but the effort here is to recognize our differences and embrace the value they bring to serving our clients and leading in our industry. In 7+ years, I have experienced many challenges. Challenges, that pushed me to learn, grow and allowed me to lead. My supportive leaders at all levels and my peers are the reasons I continue to enjoy my role(s). Hiring practices are such that each manager is seeking to find and enlist those "unicorns" - folks who can multi task, think analytically for creative and intuitive solutions. I have enjoyed managers who push me to own my career path and have laid opportunities in front of my teams for any or all to take.

Cons

Paycor is not for those waiting to be handed something. It is not a culture of sit down and shut up. It is for mature, compassionate, empowered individuals who want to build relationships and take their teams into the future. This requires you to be Curious and Seek to understand and learn from that understanding. The payroll industry is full of caring people who want to take care of families and help each other find success. To support those folks, you must be ready to jump in and assist. This is not a place to stay back and avoid those tough conversations. This is place where working through touch conversations and complex needs is WELCOME and we celebrate the wins for our clients and users. Each client, each relationship is an opportunity to grow, lead, succeed. We take very seriously the needs of our clients and put them as priority one. This is not for everyone. Its hard for many to accept this and this is what I think is a con.

Pros

Remote-first company, flexible hours, very realistic/understanding that human beings work here, not automatons.

Cons

I have none. Honestly. Happiest I've been as an employee in any job I've ever had.

Pros

Paycheck hits on time every two weeks.

Cons

I wanted to like working at Paycor. The product has potential and the pitch during the interview process sounded promising. But the reality of day-to-day life here is a far cry from what's advertised. Micromanagement is rampant. Leadership tracks every minute of your day — from login times to bathroom breaks — yet somehow trusts no one to make even the smallest decision independently. You're treated like a number, not a professional. There's zero autonomy, and any attempt to take initiative is quickly shut down. The leadership team is deeply out of touch. Many managers got their roles through tenure, not merit, and it shows. They struggle to answer basic questions about the industry, lean on buzzwords in meetings, and consistently make decisions that anyone with relevant experience would know to avoid. When things go wrong, blame rolls downhill fast. The culture is toxic and cliquey. If you're not in the right social circle, advancement is nearly impossible. Favoritism is blatant, feedback is rarely constructive, and the "open door policy" is a joke — speak up and you'll find yourself quietly pushed out. The work environment doesn't help either. High turnover means institutional knowledge constantly walks out the door. Morale is low, burnout is high, and HR seems more interested in protecting the company than the employees.
