Pros
They work around your schedule and are great if you are a student or work two jobs. It is fairly easy work and they pay a little bit more than some similar retailers. The stores I worked in kept a good amount of people working at a time so you weren't ever overloaded. My manager was new and they seemed to get her trained fast. They don't expect everything to be perfect and understand mistakes occasionally being made. They were trusting of all the employees in my store, never really treated them like they were going to steal even though it would have been very easy to do so.
Cons
The pay isn't enough to live on your own or have much extra money, but it isn't less than any other retail position. It is very repetative work and can get somewhat boring. They get kind of into the customer service in a cheesy way. I really like working retail and am someone who is always friendly and it even got to be a little much for me. Sometimes they expect you to really push the shoes on people, in a annoying sales person kind of way. One problem with that is they have one person ringing up and one on the floor for example and the one ringing up isn't supposed to go out onto the floor. Well then at the end of each month the look at how much you sold to customers. If the person on the floor is the one making the sales pitch the cashier is getting the credit. If your sales are low you get a "little talk" no reprimand or anything just a "we really need to get sales up, lets try to work on that" It isn't really fair when you aren't the one getting credit for the people you just spent an hour with helping try on shoes.
