Pros
30%discount youre basically the manager as the associate, you can give out coupons, discounts etc. Really good communication with the dr manager, any complaints are heard. Its a challenge! It keeps you up at nights and MAKES you into a better sales man. 3 months in Payless and you will be able to sell the shirt you are wearing this very second to your mother! Good training 50%off 1 item once a month
Cons
The sales goals, the RIDICULOUS smiles leader thing the CUSTOMER JOURNEY LOL, conversion, crm, dpts, tagging 3 days a week, changing prices and promotions AND like 6 Displays, as often as you change clothes. Payless makes a simple job very hard. Do we really need to change tags and prices 3 days a week? You do EVERYTHING here, from breaking down shipment, cleaning and moping (bathroom as well), to taking the deposit to the bank EVERYDAY, when your only a part time sales associate. The customer journey is basically you checking up on the customer about 6 times and offering them things they probably don't need or want. We dont have a security guard in our stores, all you get is a necklace to push when youre in an emergency. I've pushed it by accident, nothings happened so okay. The most challenging thing is probably UPTS=units per transaction. If you get a return or an exchange, your upts drop drastically, if you can't get people to buy more than 1 item per transaction, it drops drastically as well. There is never any payroll. You are schedules 3-9:39 (example) and you end up having to leave at 10, if your lucky, and there is no way you get paid for it, so you might as well just leave the store a mess. Even if you end up recovering the store 2hours early, you ALWAYS have those customers that show up 10 minutes before closing. I'm glad I didn't agree to be an assistant manager or a full timer, other wise I'd be in conference calls everyday (if I don't meet sales, upts, dpts, etc.), yes conference calls are daily.Out of the 3 years I have been working here, I have never had a 10 minute break when I work 5 hours straight. Very unfair company, I should have listened to the reviews 2 years ago and remained on un employment. I want my review to be as helpful as posiblle and I don't want to be pessimistic. My advice is if you MUST work here, then just take a redbull every day you work, suggest like crazy to EVERYONE, google how to be a good sales person, check back on customers every 3.5 minutes, never take a break not even for a minute, walk around the wholse store back and forth when you are the smiles leader, MAKE PEOPLE BUY, beg them, if your upts get low use coupons! It's either you or the customer, choose you, because at the end of the day, YOU are responsible for the numbers, regardless if you have 1 week working at Payless, so do what you gotta do, and get those numbers up. I have had so many sleepless night, dwelling upon numbers when I get paid .50 cents about minimum wage. I miss my cashier job. If you are competitive and are stuck on applying at Payless, just read a few more reviews and think about it again. Im sure you'd do better fillping burgers, I know I would.
