Pros
Pros for working at Payless are the friendships that are formed with fellow associates and you get to see the new styles come in and grab the ones in your size!
Cons
Cons- there are so many but some of the standout ones are the C-stats! Our manager makes us cut the coupons (opinion ) section off and tells us we have to find a phone that we havent used before and call in 100% scores so she doesn't look bad. We are required to wear Payless Shoes yet the average pay at least in Utah is only $7.50 an hour and the 30% discount we receive does not go far! I get called in to cover shifts, to relieve our poor manager who leaves us alone for hours yet has to have a food break and what do I see? Nothing! She takes the Payless Bucks the DM hands out to the employees and uses them instead. We recently had the Oprah sale....50% off and living in a small town it was absolute chaos! Our manager was in Las Vegas, we all had to work non-stop for hours during the two days! In the end...we had 17k in sales with no variance and a store that was a total disaster! The manager called and asked us why the store wasn't cleaned....so we were up before opening and cleaning while listening to her tell the customers that her associates had failed to do their job ! Another Con, and this is one customers should pay attention to is the fact that our manager or the associates will have defective shoes brought to our attention, when the associates put aside the defective items, our manager makes us put them back out and says that they will work for someone! We have had to place returned items back on the shelf that have been worn, we must polish them and make them look as though they are somewhat new! This is wrong! The advertising is misleading as well...on the posters for EVERY sale, it shows items that are not even on sale, this leaves the associates to deal with irate people who blame us for everything! Payless is a joke, all of the associates I work with are exceptional people with great people skills, we are all older and most of us have gone to college, yet we are continally attacked by management because we don't smother our customers. I have seen more than one walk out when our manager will not leave them alone! Anyway....I would NOT encourage people to work for Payless and I would warn the customers to double check any shoes or other items they purchase for defects before they leave the store!!!!!
