Pros
The only pro for this company is the immediate crew I worked with. The higher up management (GL, DL, DRO...and so on) were complete a*holes. I was able to get off if I absolutely needed to for a day on the weekend for an event only if I got coverage. Be prepared to slave your life away to this company for 0 commission, working by yourself if you are a key holder, and being held accountable for numbers throughout the day. The only people good for this job at the current moment are those that have moved up within the company. Coming from the outside, this company has completely unrealistic expectations for their employees and has a very overwhelming atmosphere. You do get an hour break for a shift over 6 hours, yay.
Cons
Where do I start? 1. No matter where you go within this company there is NO PAYROLL. So if you are a key carrier, be prepared to work alone at some point throughout the day. 2. HAPPINESS GUARANTEE??? How the hell does this company expect to make ANY money if they allow customers at any point to make returns and for whatever reason? It affects the stores numbers and often makes you miss your goals due to the ridiculous amount of returns and exchanges. 3. Inventory/ audit preparation. This is not a challenge for those with the company for 6 months + but for any new employee it's a real challenge having them memorize lot numbers that are different for every color and width. 4. Training- there really isn't any. You go to a "orientation" that is 1 day at a training center where you are bombarded with information that you are expected to memorize and do on a daily basis. This orientation strictly covers the customer journey and no other aspect of this job. You must learn how to open shipment, process shipment, run the shipment and possibly censor tag it, ring, open and close the store, deposits, learn how to sign up customers for rewards and so on. 5. The customer journey is a joke. Customers don't want to be bothered and smothered with our robotic lines about sales going on and certain items on sale and mentioning how great that show looks on them and then suggesting another shoe or accessory in the aisle and then again at the register. All for 0 commission. Cool. NOBODY DOES ALL THE DAMN STEPS. the most I do is tell the customer about the current sale and assist with sizing children. 6. Coupons- either tell us to accept them from coupon apps or tell us not to. You change your minds every day about it. 7. Sale change- I actually like sale changes but I DO NOT LIKE how you have increased the amount of tagging by almost double and then have taken away payroll! Are you joking Payless?? You have to change all end panels and any tables you have. Oh and they added towers that you have to change to, sometimes after a few days. 8. Price changes- if you told me on Monday to tag a shoe, DO NOT TELL ME on WEDNESDAY to change it again. Now I am annoyed. 9. YOUR GOALS AS A COMPANY ARE UNREALISTIC 10. If you are working with any non keys you cannot leave the store for your break. Which means you either have to bring your own lunch or suck it up. 11. The raises are dependent on your stores results at the end of the year. Good luck getting a raise unless you get a promotion. The most I saw was like $.30 one year. 12. You get personal and sick days but literally can never use them. I would use them for days to give to other co workers for hours. 13. If you are a chronic sick person this is not the job for you. You cannot call out once a week and you can't come to work and expect to not do anything but ring for your shift. 14. Prices- $70 boots? $50 sandals? NOBODY WANTS TO PAY TOP DOLLAR FOR PAYLESS. NOT EVEN THE EMPLOYEES WITH OUR 30% DISCOUNT. And as an employee who directly interacts with customers we don't like to be yelled at for the prices that Payless sets. This company doesn't know which way is up or down. They change their minds every 3 seconds and were never consistent. Would give 0 stars if I could. I gave many years of my life to this company and got nothing out of it but misery.
