Pros

Penn State offers a lot of lateral and upwards movement in jobs, there are many positions available and they often give preference to current employees.

Cons

Penn State has a huge network and offers lots of positions, however, all those departments are run by very different people. I primarily worked in the art/humanities sector of Penn State and that meant working with a lot a faculty. Even as a full time staff member (with a Master's Degree) I found most faculty to be hard to work with. They don't answer emails, but when they need something from you they don't hesitate to email you 6 times a day, call you, and reach out to your supervisor.

Pros

Decent Benefits, Nice Amounts of Time off

Cons

Staff are the lowest of the totem pole and you KNOW it. Pay not enough to live by yourself as a working adult in State College Area. Will waste your time if there's nothing to do by requiring you to sit there while faculty and admin get to "work from home" (they really don't) President Benepudi will probably give herself 2 more $1.5 million pay increases while you work there unable to afford a simple apartment by yourself.
