Pros

There is certainly opportunity for growth at the University, but usually you have to completely change departments to do so. Often times there is little opportunity for growth within a Unit. Great benefits (medical, dental, vision) and time off. You can't beat the almost two weeks off around Christmas!

Cons

There is a lot of waste at the University - especially with personnel. If you don't mind watching people that don't do their work be placed in a corner or promoted to get them out of the way - while still collecting a paycheck probably bigger than yours - then you'll be fine here. Penn State could conservatively fire 1/3 of the workforce (the unproductive 1/3) and not lose anything.

Pros

Decent Benefits, Nice Amounts of Time off

Cons

Staff are the lowest of the totem pole and you KNOW it. Pay not enough to live by yourself as a working adult in State College Area. Will waste your time if there's nothing to do by requiring you to sit there while faculty and admin get to "work from home" (they really don't) President Benepudi will probably give herself 2 more $1.5 million pay increases while you work there unable to afford a simple apartment by yourself.
