Pros

Good research institute in general for scientist. Most of the techniques and equipments (biological science) can be found here. Good health care system.

Cons

The city is very very very dull if you need some culture in your daily life. Of course if you only care about work or raising a family then it is perhaps no problem. University international office not very helpful and some staff members are not friendly. PA state law is not friendly to international workers and I had trouble to renew my driver license after driving 10 years in US. No retirement plan for Postdoc.

Pros

Decent Benefits, Nice Amounts of Time off

Cons

Staff are the lowest of the totem pole and you KNOW it. Pay not enough to live by yourself as a working adult in State College Area. Will waste your time if there's nothing to do by requiring you to sit there while faculty and admin get to "work from home" (they really don't) President Benepudi will probably give herself 2 more $1.5 million pay increases while you work there unable to afford a simple apartment by yourself.
