Pros

Amazing product that saves lives. I would reconsider Penumbra if I had a chance to work with a different team or department.

Cons

Soooo many cons to list about the FSO team work environment. I genuinely worked my behind off at Penumbra and tried to make it work. Penumbra should have been asking us for anonymous feedback but they never did. That’s the first red flag here. The FSO leadership members I worked with on a day to day are extremely unprofessional and need regular communication training. Be ready to strive for 99.9999% accuracy. No, not 99% as they tell you because that actually leaves 1% of mistakes which seem to be too much. To determine accuracy, the FSO manager will QA “random” orders you submitted. I find it very odd that the FSO manager “cant remember” the software she uses on a DAILY BASIS to pull “random” orders yet she can remember all other softwares used in the role like SAP, Excel, Outlook, AssurX, Teams etc. Yeah, no, it clearly seems like they get any order you made a mistake on and pretend like you’re not meeting the accuracy expectations. Very unorganized and they must think the people that report to them are clueless. I wouldn’t be shocked if my work was sabotaged because the FSO manager seemed very jealous of my experience in the tech support field and it seemed as if I was a threat to this individual. You will be belittled and spoke down to for asking questions yet they want you to work on basic mundane tasks of just highlighting P/Os for your first 3+ months and not learn anything about your actual job duties (of course they expedite training for others and pick and choose who to treat fairly. They set this individual up for success day 1 with her Adobe license, yet me and another individual didn’t have our license until approximately day 20. Racism? I don’t know). They haven’t had enough common sense to assign a designated person for questions so we don’t have to bombard supervisors and managers. Penumbra, hire more people so you’re not stressing out the FSO manager because she is clearly overworked, overwhelmed, and it shows in how she speaks to people. It’s despicable. I was literally insulted for asking a question they felt like shouldn’t be asked. Why waste 3 months doing literally nothing when that time can be managed effectively with actually teaching us the job? I didn’t learn FSO tasks until literally 6 months into the job since they wanted us to learn standard order processing which shouldn’t have been more than a week or two training process. I have no idea how this training schedule made sense to any of the FSO leaders. We shouldn’t need to highlight documents more than 2 days — that’s 16 hours of highlighting. Im not sure if they were too lazy to come up with a training plan or if they just had too much on their plates. I’m sure the low pay offered also had a lot to do with the horrible attitude from management. I was offered a salaried job when I was hired, yet it was switched to hourly less than a MONTH into the position and I have no idea how that’s legal. Several months later, I mentioned my concerns regarding the switch to my supervisor and was told they needed to check with HR on that info as if I was lying…… he must not have realized I always keep my offer letters and it specifically indicates my SALARIED pay. No, my supervisor didn’t actually follow up with me regarding updates from HR and pay. I only received constant blatant disrespect from “leaders” the entire time I was there no matter how much I tried to drown them in kindness and respect. Make sure your shift time starts at 7am PST and not after. Majority of the work will be completed by your colleagues before you log in and it will look as if you’re not doing any work because it’s literally impossible to catch up *no matter how hard you work*. Once again Management lacks common sense to understand how you have a disadvantage with a later start time. They just think you have the same 8 hours without looking deeper into it. They will gaslight, belittle, and treat you as if you’re incompetent. I value working hard, so I offered to start work at 7am like everybody else so we can *evenly* distribute the work, but I was rejected to do so and told I get to leave later. THERE ARENT ANY FSO ORDERS BETWEEN 4pm and 5pm PST, hello?! I was shocked the FSO lead ship team didn’t have enough common sense to acknowledge this scheduling problem and proceeded to do something about it. Hardly anyone seems to be qualified to lead a support team. Fortunately, I’ve found a much better employer. Just save yourself the trouble and continue applying elsewhere, or maybe join a different department in the company because it’s possible other departments are ran better. ONE of the FSO supervisors was actually very qualified and helpful. His name starts with a P and I truly hope he gets promoted for Penumbra’s sake because he’s more deserving than any of the FSO leaders at Penumbra. He and the bad tech job market are the only reasons I didn’t leave sooner so if Penumbra cares about employee retention they will promote him or give him a raise.
