Pros
This is a 100% work-from-home position and the company provides all necessary office supplies except for office furniture - to include laptop, printer, paper, ink, pens, notebooks, and much more. The company even subsidizes your internet bill, and a fax line, and they will either subsidize your cell phone if you want to use your personal cell for business, or they will pay for a cell phone to be assigned to you as a work phone.
Management appears to genuinely care about the wellbeing of investigators and they understand the need for a work-life balance.
Temporary Duty assignments occur and the company is good about paying for travel, miles/rentals, hotels, etc.
Promotions: Investigators are evaluated every quarter for promotion. If an investigator is performing regularly at the next higher step, then the Investigator is promoted. Also, if an Investigator doesn't want to be required to meet the higher level standards, Investigators can turn down promotions with no negative repercussions. If you want to work at the company for 20 years as an Investigator-II, you can do that.
Cons
The workload is very heavy. The reason management has to focus on encouraging a work-life balance is because if they don't, it is easy for investigators to get caught in a never-ending cycle of never being able to clear all tasks off their agenda.
You are required to have an active fax line in your home.
Sometimes, temporary duty assignments are assigned last-minute.
Every new Investigator starts at the lowest level, unless you have direct previous experience as a background investigator. Starting pay isn't great, especially considering how much work we do. Pay becomes fairly good at the higest levels (i.e. Investigator VI), but the work load required to achieve that level is almost unthinkable.
