Most appear to have risen through the ranks by perseverance rather than skills or talent. Lots of entrenched old-school ideas. The method of acquisition to growth has left the PE ranks filled with a 2nd-tier management team. When a new company is acquired the real leaders leave quickly leaving a 2nd-tier group that seem to have populated most levels of management. That is why it's 'almost great' ... innovative ideas are constantly being born but there are too many levels of 'ordinary' to get past...
