Pros

Personalis innovates with game-changing technologies that will have a huge impact on medicine. I want to work with a company that is doing something more - For me, Personalis is it. There are a lot of super smart people working there in many categories. I see none of the micro-management noted in another post here. It's been quite the opposite for me. I've got full latitude and support to create and innovate. My manager is fantastic. I've never had better. And because of it, we're making rapid progress on great new products. The people are welcoming and friendly. I started working with them as a contractor, and was invited to and welcomed at company parties. I took a pay cut to work here, and I don't regret it. I am excited to be working with such a great company. The CEO is smart, visionary, and inspiring. The products are excellent, and they're doing things that their competitors can't pull off.

Cons

Pay is pretty good, but so far I don't see the high bonuses that I could get at some other companies. There's more and more traffic on 101 near the company. Yeah, I recently ate lunch at Uber - I'd like a lunch setup like that.

Pros

This is a very exciting mission to be a part of, and 2025 was definitely a year that saw some great developments for this company's reputation and growth. This is a company where most every role will allow you to grow and contribute immensely. Almost everybody seems to become an expert in something that makes them a respected and important part of the team. I have felt very advocated for by my managers and team, since the beginning of the hiring process. They very much want to see me succeed I feel. The office's amenities are quite nice for being a small company, and there's still fairly good flexibility for hybrid work on most teams.

Cons

It's a 24/7 operation, so I and many others will have to think about work even on off days. It's not a strict expectation, but responding to emails or checking messages will often happen outside of the typical 9-5. That all said, I have not felt like my own work/life balance is miserable (I cannot say the same for everyone, though). It takes quite a while to hit a stride of really knowing the ins and outs here. So much knowledge on how to do things is just in peoples' heads, and the experts are frequently too busy to really sit down and walk you through it as you onboard. Learning can take quite a while, and may be overwhelming at first. There are some people who have clearly taken on or been assigned too much responsibility for one person to reasonably maintain, which just doesn't feel fair to them. And it puts pressure on those folks to never really take true time off.
