Pros

Opportunity to work with pets and interact with pet owners

Cons

Where to start? 1. Unqualified, inexperienced managers with subpar to horrible communications and management skills; 2. Promotions based upon "liking" an employee, versus actual work performance and qualifications; 3. Ignoring the great work of employees who aren't "liked" and favoring female employees for being attractive and "likeable"; 4. Unrealistic expecations and believing employees can accomplish great amounts of work in a minimal amount of time; 5. Very poor compensation with no recognition or reward for outstanding work (substandard employees get paid the same as you); 6. Managers who clearly do not have the ability to recognize talent. I could go on and on and ON . . . If you work for Petsmart, you are just a number, a slot to be filled. You are not an individual. Unless you are "liked," you will not be recognized or rewarded for your work. Store managers have entirely too much power, and are free to make promotional decisions based on their personal feelings towards an employee, versus promoting those who display superior job knowledge, skills and work performance. A standard yearly raise is 20 cents per hour, which isn't even enough to cover inflation. Hours are inconsistent and most often not enough to do your job. Petsmart DOES NOT pay a living wage, except to store managers and operations managers. Everyone else is grossly underpaid. The emphasis is on part time employees with no benefits, and employee turnover is exceptionally high. Many in managerial and corporate positions are in their positions not because of their abilities, but because they were "liked" by someone. Petsmart's corporate philosphy is driven purely by profit. If a district manager or HR representative decides to do something about managers mistreating employees, the DM or HR rep is fired. Petsmart simply does not want any time invested in employee issues, and has a long history of retaliating against employees who make complaints about their superiors. From the outside looking in, as a customer, or in the eyes of a young person with little life experience, this may appear to be a good company with honorable intentions. But as we know, appearances can be deceiving, and in the case of Petsmart, they certainly are.

Pros

The staff care a lot and try their hardest but it leads to burn out and being taken advantage of by a company the does not care about YOU.

Cons

Poor management. No work life balance. Bad scheduling. Bad pay. No communication. Leads expected to work more than 10 hours a day during high volume periods, Be responsible for too many things. You run around like a chicken with it's head chopped off the whole time you're at work. Staff are snippy, and rude. A few are okay. Company has you working bare bones, and does not care. Pet parent's are weird, and I don't think have realistic expectations that the boarding facility is more like dropping your dog off at a dog shelter for a week while you go on vacation than a "fun time" for your dog. Dogs get fed, watered, pottied. If that is all you care about, then use the PetHotel. If you want your dog to have fun, and be out of a stressful environment (few dogs do well with constant barking and noise all day, plus being stuck in a cement run, thrown in with a bunch of other dogs who have never been properly socialized) just do in home boarding. I would never board my dog at a place like this.
