Pros
Co-workers and MOST management are very friendly, pay is better than many other cashier positions, allow lots of flexibility with the schedule, and you will almost always get off the days you need (as long as you let them know plenty time ahead of then, and repeat it many times), customers praise you for your help, and appreciate your knowledge and friendliness. Close-knit team. Become very knowledgeable about pets.
Cons
VERY short-handed ALL the time - - puts lots of pressure on employees, causing much stress. Store manager slacks off in the office, yet expects other managers and all employees to complete impossible tasks throughout the day. Hours cut greatly without any warning. One week I had ZERO hours, and then the next couple months only had 5 to 15 hours a week after requesting to work full-time. Because of being so short-handed, Pet-Care are forced to do cashier work, and Vice Versa, and Cashiers do Stocker's work also. Store manager expects you to be in 4 places at once, and even if you work your butt off and do an AWESOME job, you will NEVER get any thanks or appreciation. The only satisfaction I ever got for all my hard work was through the customers. Managers don't seem to care or even notice. LAZY employees- slack off all the time, managers favor them, so they allow it. Then everyone else is stuck to pull their weight.
