Sweat Shop with Cut-Throat IT VPs - Work In IT Petco Employee Review

Pros

It's a job and the building is pleasant. However, keeping in mind that the building was constructed by the previous leadership, not the current. To be fair, there are a few IT VPs that are good and fair and respected: Severn, Mike, Brendten.

Cons

Zero loyalty in IT leadership. HR worried about the management's opinions and success, not the employees. IT No place for employee experiencing unfair treatment to go. HR even removed the feedback section that used to be available when acknowledging annual reviews. Benefits are terrible. They even have most of the employees fooled into thinking they are helping them by taking away sick days. In reality, they removed sick days so that they no longer have to track the liability on their books or pay out the unused sick days when employees leave the company. I would not work in the infrastructure area for all the money in the world. That is the most poorly lead area. I've watched many a good person intimidated until quitting or fired for not being a yes person.

Pros

- Wonderful people under the Sr. Director level - Dogs in the office - Brand name carries weight on your resume

Cons

- Sr. Directors and above are largely nepotism hires rather than merit-based promotions - Leadership team is toxic and disrespectful, and that tone trickles down to other senior leaders - Gender favoritism shows up repeatedly, with women being asked to pick up the work of men without additional pay. Or men being promoted over women due to favoritism and not merit. - Nearly every employee I worked with was disengaged and functioning out of fear of layoffs rather than job satisfaction (layoffs happen multiple times a year) - The company's declining position also makes it harder to land your next role, since a recent Petco title now reads as coming from a struggling brand
