Pros

Good work life balance and not hard to learn your job, although there is a lot to learn. PetCo does really great work with the PetCo Foundation. The company invests a great deal in helping animals. They have set high standards for animal care and do well enforcing those standards.

Cons

Doesn't seem like corporate realizes what burden they place on the employees when they push for certain results. Feels like you can never really meet expectations regardless of the effort and speed you work. The payroll is so tight it becomes physically impossible to get all the work down within your shift, even our top employees struggle. The way work is getting down is because employees are working off the clock and the salaried manager becomes married to the store working 70-80 per week.

Pros

- Wonderful people under the Sr. Director level - Dogs in the office - Brand name carries weight on your resume

Cons

- Sr. Directors and above are largely nepotism hires rather than merit-based promotions - Leadership team is toxic and disrespectful, and that tone trickles down to other senior leaders - Gender favoritism shows up repeatedly, with women being asked to pick up the work of men without additional pay. Or men being promoted over women due to favoritism and not merit. - Nearly every employee I worked with was disengaged and functioning out of fear of layoffs rather than job satisfaction (layoffs happen multiple times a year) - The company's declining position also makes it harder to land your next role, since a recent Petco title now reads as coming from a struggling brand
