Pros

Friendly out going customers who have the same love for animals that most of the employees do. Great place to work if you are animal lover. Decent discount.

Cons

Hours that stores are given to run the operation are not adequate to perform all daily tasks correctly. Too many short-cuts are taken on animal care and their is many problems with instock because not enough time is spent fixing inventory problems in the system Corporate management does not get a true picture of how most stores operate on a daily basis. DM's always receive advanced notification when there is going to be a visit from corporate, stores are then allowed to go over their hours budget to fix any issues in the store before the visit, but of course you will pay these hours back the next week. But this is normal in the retail world now, not just Petco. Petco should spend more time keeping stores looking good everyday, instead of only looking good for store visits. But if they continue to keep their heads buried in the sand, they will never get a true picture of how the stores look day in and day out. Spend more hours please, your customers deserve it!

Pros

- Wonderful people under the Sr. Director level - Dogs in the office - Brand name carries weight on your resume

Cons

- Sr. Directors and above are largely nepotism hires rather than merit-based promotions - Leadership team is toxic and disrespectful, and that tone trickles down to other senior leaders - Gender favoritism shows up repeatedly, with women being asked to pick up the work of men without additional pay. Or men being promoted over women due to favoritism and not merit. - Nearly every employee I worked with was disengaged and functioning out of fear of layoffs rather than job satisfaction (layoffs happen multiple times a year) - The company's declining position also makes it harder to land your next role, since a recent Petco title now reads as coming from a struggling brand
