Great place to work, but Union leadership needs to step up - Foreman Philadelphia Gas Works Employee Review

Pros

Salary and benefits are great and the company is well managed. About 15-20 years ago, the company began to rebuild itself after a series of horrible leaders in the 80s and 90s that almost ran the company into the ground. Today, the leaders actually care about employees, have maintained benefits and increased pay, and want to make the operation of the company efficient and competitive. If you're a good worker, you'll do great and earn a solid wage with very competitive benefits. If you're a bum, please go someplace else.

Cons

The Union leadership really needs to step up or get out of the way. They spend way too much time protecting crappy workers and fighting ridiculous battles, all in the name of, "We're just doing our job." I wish they would realize that what they're really doing is hurting the rest of us and making it more difficult for the company to maintain the good wages and benefits that we enjoy. Good workers should be paid well. Bad workers and cry babies, who constantly hide behind the Union, don't deserve the job.

Pros

Easy work guaranteed 40 hours a week great benefits no lay offs pension 457 or 401k paid sick days holidays and vacation days

Cons

You get penalized for using sick days to easy to lose progressions in the summer time the higher up have less work so they micromanage everything you do new rules are constantly being added it’s not a real union the union works for Pgw so it’s a conflict of interest when it comes time for them to defend you the company always puts the blame on you if they can never find a conclusive answer to a problem
