Pros

My coworkers are pretty great. Working on City Cruises was very enjoyable.

Cons

One of the most degrading jobs. If you’re late, instead of texting your supervisor, you have to call a hotline and they text a big group chat. (I once had 6 shifts in two weeks and got written up for being 2 minutes late to two of them) You’re essentially forcing people to take photos against a green screen, then trying to sell those photos. People don’t want to take those photos, and people don’t want to buy them, so what’s the point of this job? When people don’t want to take the photos, they get extremely rude. The photos are also overpriced anyway. You’re often given multiple tasks at once, scanning a card, counting/talking to people/getting the next group of people in line to stop, so it can get extremely overwhelming easily, and you’re often doing the job of multiple people. Different venues are run differently, and they like to toss their employees around each venue and then get annoyed when we don’t perform to the different expectations. If you take a couple of hours off during the day (granted you don’t get paid time off at all) you won’t be on the schedule at all that day. And if you take too much time off they’ll stop giving shifts for a while. While at Navy Pier, my shifts were constantly being canceled because they didn’t have enough hours to give out, which was never fully explained to me. There are no commissions despite it being a sales job. There is no employee appreciation or even love. The company is outdated, poorly run, they take themselves way too seriously for a service that wouldn’t be missed if it was taken away.
