Pros

The company's mission is very admirable and feels grounded in the actual need to help people and life on Earth. The individual engineers are unbelievably smart. I love just having access to them to bounce ideas off of, even for things unrelated to work. I can't stress enough how valuable this is if you are a lifelong learner. I've been here for many years and I've had multiple roles. The company is very open to people moving around within the org The office itself is awesome. Every week people bake bread and cookies in the Planet-provided ovens. The company band is great. The football games are fun. There's lots of personal engagement. The San Francisco office is only about 200 people so it is very possible to get to know almost everyone. The company's business prospects are actually very good even in the COVID era. I have a lot of confidence they will still be around in 10 years.

Cons

The mission is so compelling that certain other aspects of the company are allowed to languish. Rewards don't always come to those who deserve them. Poor performers are not always let go on an appropriately short timeline. This is highly dependent on which manager you have. Compared to other Aerospace Engineering companies/NASA, Planet's turnaround feels pretty high. Compared to other startups, the turnaround feels pretty low.

Lower comp and raises overall, and as with space, stock is pretty variable.
