Territorial staff and poor management - Anonymous employee Portland Community College Employee Review

Pros

The desktop support team at the Campuses really know their environment and all do their best. Within the groups at each campus, they're a pretty cohesive team. The telecom team is nice and definitely knows their stuff. There was a lot of experience (and typical stubbornness) on that team, but still good people. They do the job right.

Cons

The Network Team constantly had internal (to the team) battles for control of the network. Communication was nonexistent and management was poor, at best. Some projects never get completed without "pulling teeth" because of the senior network engineers dragging their feet.

Pros

The people. PCC hires many wonderful, talented, well-meaning people who really care about their community. Other pros include, flexibility like being able to choose your own schedule, and trust in hired employees to do their work on their terms.

Cons

Major con is how messy the entire college seems to be. Massive lack in any semblance of effective communication. Nobody seems to know whats going on and everyone is almost always on a different page. Company structure is always changing and people are never notified in an organized or timely manner. Everyone seems spread too thin regardless of what position they are in and nobody seems to have the time to get on the same page. Layoffs seem to be commonly caused by lack of planning and communication. Onboarding was practically nonexistent and as a new employee i basically had to figure out everything on my own without any guidance.
