Pros

Depends on your department. Each has its own micro culture. Mine was professional, committed to excellence, caring of its staff, open to new ideas and improvement. Each person’s experience will be vastly different depending on who is leading the department.

Cons

Low salary for administrative professionals. Not competitive. Can feel undervalued. PSU always struggling financially, and it has had incompetent presidents in past.

Pros

Fantastic colleagues, excellent organizational mission, amazing benefits (esp. health).

Cons

Morale is currently (2026) low because of ongoing fiscal crisis and job cuts. Organization is highly bureaucratic, left hand often doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Woke politics can get out of hand.
