Pros
Great job, you are working for a company that is part owned by the government and for the government services such as HMPO, DVLA and HM Borders/ customs and excise. It really has a lot of pros, such as very good teams in all branches, professional uniforms, a bank like approach, very good skills to develop. 3 breaks per day (the Post Office staff work hard and fought for this!) 2 x 15mins and a 30 mins lunch. The perks are massive including learning a lot of delicate skills. The network is huge! Meaning 11,500 branches that do banking for the public. We deal with financial services, mails, passports, drivers licenses, mortgages, travel money, insurances and many more things such as biometrics for immigrants etc, benefit pay outs, postal orders, money transfers, cashing in cheques. So if you are not up to the standard or you think this is a sit down job then its not for you. We will always be around no matter what, because the public uses us a lot and this is the fun part of our job, speaking and meeting all kinds of people from the poorest to the richest in society. It is a positive atmosphere! diverse workforce and this is why I like it! You can find the old man/lady who are very traditional and you can find the young, middle aged, mums and dads, black, white, asians, europeans hell you might even find a martian working with us.... This makes us all one at the Post Office, we have our views but we are all one inside our office. (I worked at 3 crowns so far!)
Cons
Not much cons. Self service kiosks can be daunting but you have to learn to be a teacher to the public. The other thing is we could be paid more because we work damn hard! So if you do not like to work from 8.30am to 5.40pm every day then its not for you. Regulations are heavy! We are a bank afterall
