Great Place to Work, with a Few Exceptions - Program Assistant Practising Law Institute Employee Review

Pros

- Great work atmosphere - friendly and fun. I often hear laughing throughout my department - Under the new president, Anita Shapiro, PLI management has become more transparent - Work-balance is excellent! Hours are consistent, and when I leave for the day, there are no expectations until I am back at my desk the next morning.

Cons

- Many of the jobs here are dead-end, with absolutely no room for growth or "moving up" - As of Dec. 2015, annual raises range from 2-5%, which essentially is just a cost-of-ilving increase (note: PLI is a nonprofit) - Some of the software used is very archaic and in major need of an upgrade

We always appreciate reading comments from both current and former PLI employees as we find great value in their insights. We are very glad to see the positive comments about our strong efforts to be transparent and provide excellent work/life balance, to name a few. With regard to recent remarks that voice concern about little room for growth, it is worth noting that more than 40% of our current staff has been promoted at least once, with some on multiple occasions. While there may not be a promotion in store for every employee, we would like all staff to feel they are learning and growing at PLI. To that end, we are continually exploring career development initiatives and have already committed to new training programs in 2016. A comment was also made regarding our recent merit increase program, to the effect that PLI simply offers “cost of living” increases. We are pleased to share that the average employee increase at PLI this year was 4.24%, with more than 60% of employees receiving 4.5% or higher. Various internet reports indicate the majority of companies gave an average of 3.1% in 2015, and the current cost of living in the U.S. is actually running at under 1%. Keeping these figures in mind, we are proud of our ability to offer our committed, hard-working employees merit increases well above both! We continue to welcome feedback. Best Regards, Joan D. Sternberg VP, Human Resources
