Great mission, poor execution - Director of Client Operations Premise Health Employee Review

Pros

Majority of health centers in the company do great work and help many patients. Remote work in this role with travel. Opportunity to collaborate with many different departments and clients.

Cons

The role of the DCO has become a dumping ground for all of operations. The role is responsible for all clinical oversight (even if you’re not a clinician), operational oversight, strategic growth and development, sales, product implementation…I could go on. The fact that the clinical leaders in this company only provide consultation to operations without any direct responsibility is scary and ineffective. I often felt like I was solely responsible for solving all problems no matter what area allegedly “owned” it because ownership falls entirely on the DCO. It’s sad because there are so many amazing operators that have come and gone with no changes by senior leadership to the structure and support of the operations division.

Pros

Listens to employees and cares about what we think. Is dedicated to our members receiving the best care possible.

Cons

Pay needs to be better - it does not match the cost of living and people are struggling to make ends meet. Free pizza and verbal kudos are great but don't pay the bills.

Pros

Great company to work for with strong leadership support and a team culture that genuinely cares about employee wellbeing and growth. Premise invests in continuing education, development opportunities, and provides great resources for both professional and personal health. I’ve especially appreciated the focus on whole-person wellness through programs like Sonic Boom, which makes healthy habits fun, engaging, and community-driven. Leadership is approachable, supportive, and encourages innovation and collaboration across teams.

Cons

As a large healthcare organization, some systems and processes can feel a bit outdated, especially with how quickly technology and the fitness industry evolve. That said, because Premise is a healthcare company, everything has to go through extensive vetting for compliance and safety, which is understandable. There are also a lot of policies and standardized procedures that don’t always perfectly translate to the fitness side of operations since many are built more around healthcare models. The environment can be stricter at times, but leadership is generally open-minded, willing to listen to feedback, and continues to evolve as the fitness and wellness division grows.
