Pros
I only worked on one client however the team and management that I worked with was awesome. From the start there was never any question on whether or not I knew what I was doing or that what I would relay back to the PM was correct. The client was a good one however there was an issue with the client's employee sharing too much sensitive information. The employee became naturally upset yet rather than deal with the fact that they were in the wrong they tried very hard to have me fired. The chain of command backed me up 110% which was a solid indicator that this was a good place to work. If there was ever a need to personal time it was no big deal even at short notice because we all know that can happen. I had a family member in a terrible vehicular accident and the understanding, caring, and flexibility was second to none. I did attend a company wide conference and everyone else that I met seemed to be quite happy. I was able to work remote with travel. The travel was rarely unplanned or at last minutes notice. I felt that work/life balance was pretty decent. Sure there was some stuff that I missed out on from time to time, but I knew well in advance that it would happen and could schedule accordingly.
Cons
I was hired primarily for a certain client. There were times in the cycle that utilization was down and we were asked to provide when time was available to work on other projects however every time that I did do it I was never associated with that work. Due to this and the type of project work that I was on in hindsight I feel like I was pigeon holed to a point. I am now discovering that being on a long term project that doesn't give great exposure to decision making and design work has led to having difficulty finding new employment. I am sitting in a limbo of sorts. I have tons of design experience and senior engineering experience yet the lack of continued work at that level (Even though my title states Senior) has hampered me in job interviews. Onboarding could have been better when I was hired. To the day that I left I still didn't really have a good handle completely on benefits, education, or ability to move within the company. I had been told that I could move to a different division, but it would require applying just like anyone else in the rest of the public. Even though I was on a great project team it really felt as though were were in our own little world locked away from the rest of the groups.
