Pros

- mostly good people, young & fun co-workers - travel opportunities, air miles/hotel points - constant change from one project to the next (although this is the nature of consulting) - no issues taking time off - good work/life balance (only if you are NOT traveling for a client project)

Cons

- compensation at lower levels is well below market, this is especially true for NYC (the company doesn't adjust compensation enough for cost of living) - experiences will vary greatly depending on what project you get placed on, you can get stuck on a crappy project which can last for months, sometimes years! - most project work is very boring, highly repetitive - when you are not on a project, you can't work from home....and when you are traveling, you must fly home on friday evenings, not thursdays....this can make it hard to have good work/life balance ifyou are traveling for work - very little motivation to do anything more than the bare minimum, promotions will not happen any earlier, bonuses are a joke - very very few miniorities in middle, upper-mgmt....none in senior mgmt - high performers will almost always leave for better compensation/opportunities, leaving a bunch of mediocre people at the top who just played the "waiting game" - experienced hires will get promoted faster and get paid better....the company does not reward loyalty unless you are part of the old arthur anderson crowd - no cell phones for non-mgmt, crappy benefits, 401k match is a joke - the company is struggling to get recover from crisis, therefore there are no perks, penny pinching galore

Pros

Good Culture, decent pay, not overworked too much.

Cons

Repetitive, meaningless, and boring work, hard to pivot out of this career once started. Also, the consulting career feels like such a fake job at times. Doesn't feel like real work. Makes you question your life decisions. I'd recommend any college grads to think about their future career goals first before joining. I joined on a whim and wish I spent more time interviewing. It's been incredibly difficult to pivot out of internal audit and sox compliance once you are in it. However, if you are really good at corporate politics and advocating for yourself you may be able to pivot out of the IAFA solution . However, not sure how that lends it self if you want to leave the company.
