Pros

The company culture seems excellent. The company seems to be growing at a rapid pace, so much so, that there is competitive seating in the office. They are expanding their offerings to better compete with other larger consulting firms. Also, they seem to invest a lot in their employees by providing extensive training, such as the consulting challenge.

Cons

My Pros all say "seemed" in them, because I got hired several months ago and never actually got to start work. I was extended an offer in November and was promised by my new manager that they would start me sometime around January/February although the "official start date" was March. When March rolled around and I inquired about why I didn't have a set start date yet, I was informed that my start date was being deferred to sometime between July and September because client acquisition was slow for the team that I was supposed to be working on. I talked to everyone I possibly could to get this changed because, as a fresh college grad, I didn't have many resources to survive on and I was counting on this new job (which I let them know numerous times). I tried to change teams, requested my signing bonus early, tried to work with Robert Half for some temporary work, but Protiviti wouldn't budge and Robert Half didn't work out. I eventually ended up finding another job. BEFORE YOU ACCEPT YOUR FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT OFFER, I URGE YOU TO GET YOUR START DATE IN WRITING. Deferring my start date had a significant impact on my life and I would really hate for that to happen to someone else. Aside from that, I would advise taking what Protiviti employees say about booming client acquisition with a grain of salt, especially since they get nice big referral bonuses.

Protiviti Response

Thank you for taking time to write a review. I am sorry to hear that Protiviti did not live up to your expectations. This is a very important time in your life as you are transitioning from college into the professional world and we aim to give all of our future hires clarity into the start date selection process. Our process takes into consideration the new hire’s start date request and couples that with our business needs. This is important as we want our new hires to have a great experience from day one. We onboard our new graduates in start classes in March, July, August and September so they can attend Passport to Protiviti and The Consultant Challenge, two very important onboarding and training programs which prepare our new hires for their first client experience. I realize yours was a unique request to start early, and we tried our best to make it happen. We stayed in close communication, offered assistance from our parent company’s temporary services division and also offered a solution to work temporarily on other types of projects at Protiviti, including IT Audit. Ultimately you decided that was not a good fit with your career goals and needs, and we completely understand your decision. We wish you the best in your future endeavors and hope that our paths cross again one day. Thank you!

Pros

1) Chicago office has a good culture, overall. It’s not perfect but most of the people are great. 2) Work-life balance score has been solid (about 5+ years of insights here) 3) Although it was not great this year, Incentive compensation has overall been pretty good over the course of 5+ years. Much better than big 4 in my experience.

Cons

1) Since 2023, the culture hasn’t been great for a variety of reasons (mainly due to sluggish performance and growing too fast) 2) It feels more like a temporary staffing agency versus a consulting firm for a lot of the time. 3) There has been an awkward push for a return to the office and more business development focus that is in stark contrast to what most Protiviti people value. 4) Most people I talk to say they are not motivated by most of the MDs they interact with (this is significant in my opinion).
