Pros

-Awesome corporate culture: progressive, flexible, flat

Cons

The words "Internal Audit" were not on any job description provided, and were not mentioned during any of my 5 interviews. Nonetheless, I have spent my entire Protiviti career within the Risk & Compliance solution working on Internal Audit projects. I genuinely feel that I have wasted significant years of my career developing these skills that I never wanted; and I am going to leave not having gained the true management consulting experience I wanted. Despite what you may hear in interviews and/or these Glassdoor reviews, Protiviti is an internal audit firm. Employees don't like talking about this in public because they want to be seen as consultants, but the most common internal complaint is that we do too much internal audit and people hate it. Unfortunately, this fact hurts your prospects for moving elsewhere because all you have are these very specific internal audit skills (and/or skills from your previous line of work) and if you want to make a lateral transition you have to take a similar job. This is a real issue, and it is not fair that I was never told the magnitude of projects consisting of Internal Audit within the Risk & Compliance solution. I would not have taken this position. I'd add that the benefits are subpar; and there aren't enough women in senior positions.

Thank you for your feedback. We aim to be completely transparent in our recruiting process and give each of our candidates opportunity to meet many people during the office visits. Internal Audit and Financial Advisory Services is absolutely a fundamental part of the work we do. It is a great way to get to know the interworking of a business and industry. And this helps us become stronger as we collaborate with other solution services on our Internal Audit clients. I encourage you to voice your concerns to your Talent Manager and Career Advisor so they can work together to get your on the types of projects where you are interested in working. We appreciate your feedback and hope we can work together to get you on projects that are more aligned with your interests. Thank you!

Pros

1) Chicago office has a good culture, overall. It’s not perfect but most of the people are great. 2) Work-life balance score has been solid (about 5+ years of insights here) 3) Although it was not great this year, Incentive compensation has overall been pretty good over the course of 5+ years. Much better than big 4 in my experience.

Cons

1) Since 2023, the culture hasn’t been great for a variety of reasons (mainly due to sluggish performance and growing too fast) 2) It feels more like a temporary staffing agency versus a consulting firm for a lot of the time. 3) There has been an awkward push for a return to the office and more business development focus that is in stark contrast to what most Protiviti people value. 4) Most people I talk to say they are not motivated by most of the MDs they interact with (this is significant in my opinion).
