Pros

- Starting here out of college - you will gain tons of experience and be forced to work outside of your comfort zone. You'll have a lot more responsibility on your projects than I would have expected, and its very empowering. - On average you will have much better work life balance than other consulting firms, not to say you wont have your fair share of 70+ hour weeks but they are more of an exception than the norm - People are generally fun and outgoing. Some of my project teams have gotten me through some terrible projects

Cons

- In my experience, when things go downhill at Protiviti it is the newer hires that end up shouldering the negative effects. New hires are usually staffed on the production projects requiring insanely long hours and boring work and then are not bonus eligible after they've logged hundreds of chargeable hours per week. -Compensation is not up to par with other consulting firms, even if we work fewer hours on average - there's definitely room to improve on starting salary, 401k match, etc. - Management can be a bit tone deaf - when bad news comes down, its usually wrapped in tons of business jargon and spoonfed to you as if its some kind of gift.

Protiviti Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. As you may know from our roll-out of the strategy earlier this year, we are looking at our various compensation, rewards, and benefits programs -- and how they support our overall strategic goals. Our strategic goals have a strong orientation around our people and their experience working together at Protiviti. We are looking at the issue you note on Consultant eligibility for the bonus, and we agree that there is an opportunity to align it better. You will soon see some other enhancements we are making to our benefits, and those are in response to our people's feedback on flexibility and retirement savings. I appreciate your perspective on how we communicate. Our goal is to say things that we mean and honor our commitments. We aim to be direct, open, transparent, and timely in what we say. The business jargon is likely intended to explain what is happening and what we need to focus on, but perhaps we can say that more appropriately for our people at all levels to improve clarity. We will keep working on it!

Pros

Good Culture, decent pay, not overworked too much.

Cons

Repetitive, meaningless, and boring work, hard to pivot out of this career once started. Also, the consulting career feels like such a fake job at times. Doesn't feel like real work. Makes you question your life decisions. I'd recommend any college grads to think about their future career goals first before joining. I joined on a whim and wish I spent more time interviewing. It's been incredibly difficult to pivot out of internal audit and sox compliance once you are in it. However, if you are really good at corporate politics and advocating for yourself you may be able to pivot out of the IAFA solution . However, not sure how that lends it self if you want to leave the company.
