Pros

Work/life balance used to be good. May still be good in some areas, depending on the MD.

Cons

The reviews on Glassdoor are biased and don't reflect the truth. Management sents out emails to all staff with pressure to write good reviews. Work/life balance used to be good compared to the BIG 4. However, there is a trend of changes. While the CEO preaches and touts work/life balance, many of the MDs are trying to change that. In some areas staff are being asked to work on multiple projects. Officially they tell the client they are working full time I.e. 40 hours per week only on their project, but in reality staff are working 80 hours per week and charging multiple clients. During my interview and hiring process, I was told that Protiviti is different from Big-4 in two aspects: 1. Work/life balance and skill matching of team/project. Recent trends in both areas are exactly the opposite. The pipeline is strong, but management is behaving like a body shop. Insufficient resources, unqualified and untrained staff is a big problem now. Many MDs have their own pets. All good projects with high revenues are assigned to their pets. The new kid on the block gets projects with low potential revenue ($100K or less) and close to zero probability of winning. So if you are a new senior manager or Director, there is no way you are going to hit your sales targets. MDs and middle management are paranoid about staff working from home. The company policy is against working from home. The comps and benefits overall are not that good compared to the Big 4.

Pros

Good WLB Great Bosses Health insurance & benefits are awesome Very flexible workforce Easy to climb up in promotions

Cons

Pay is below standard (Although I feel you still get paid decently for the area) If you're put on a production project, be ready to feel stuck. Management is very lost on where they want to head into the future. I am worried this company won't last much longer (Former arthur anderson) Can feel clique-y at times amongst peers (but this is not a problem of the company specifically)

Pros

1) Chicago office has a good culture, overall. It’s not perfect but most of the people are great. 2) Work-life balance score has been solid (about 5+ years of insights here) 3) Although it was not great this year, Incentive compensation has overall been pretty good over the course of 5+ years. Much better than big 4 in my experience.

Cons

1) Since 2023, the culture hasn’t been great for a variety of reasons (mainly due to sluggish performance and growing too fast) 2) It feels more like a temporary staffing agency versus a consulting firm for a lot of the time. 3) There has been an awkward push for a return to the office and more business development focus that is in stark contrast to what most Protiviti people value. 4) Most people I talk to say they are not motivated by most of the MDs they interact with (this is significant in my opinion).
