Pros

During my tenure at PHS I was able to meet and work alongside some of the most talented, brilliant and skilled medical professionals of my career. I was able to learn so much and grow professionally in a way that I never saw possible.

Cons

Senior leadership’s awareness of real life issues being faced by frontline and patient facing employees is so far removed from reality. I have been a witness to some truly atrocious conversations about clinicians and healthcare workers, often being referred to as ungrateful and/or lazy, when truly they are burnt out, underpaid, under staffed, and not given the actual support they needed to meet the VERY unrealistic requirements/demands being imposed on them (often based on numbers and dollars, and not human suffering and physical or mental need).

Pros

(This is for Providence St Vincent Medical Center in PDX) - staffing ratios - break nurses - ONA union - coworkers on my unit are very helpful and kind (can’t speak for every unit though)

Cons

- upper management hates the nursing union - we are short on many supplies on weekend night shifts - crappy insurance - my unit’s manager is almost never there, they’re always on vacation or working remote. This makes our manager very out of touch with the unit’s needs
