Pros

You work alone 9 times out of 10. Work is generally easy. Communication amongst team members using emails and phone calls is usually smooth and helpful. They pay per mile you drive with your own car only when you’re clocked in and even potentially insure you if you’re in an accident while clocked in. Constantly get updated with new changes through emails. They use a computer software for all of their work called iChamp/WebChamp, which makes communicating and working as a team, much easier.

Cons

Work is easy, but very tedious and expected to do the same things every single day when unnecessary to do so. Scheduling is random and done typically biweekly. You could be at different locations every day and potentially do every task and monthly task at every said location. Sometimes you’ll get scheduled 10 days in a row due to last week moving onto a new week and you may not even see 2 days off, it’s usually one day off one day on and then another one day off. They do not see this as stressful and just think everything is easy and feel no guilt behind doing this when it mentally affects people feeling like you have no days off. When you come into work, you have to grab keys for the office in the company space that is usually very far from the office, constantly making you late and forcing you to come earlier to avoid clocking in late. You are required to drive to the bank with your own car to deposit payments made with cash, every day. Lunch breaks are 30 minutes Good luck trying to call off sick without questions and guilt tripping. Even though no one comes into the office, but they really need you in there for some reason when everything could be done through customer service or online. District Managers have favorites and tend to lean towards them for decision making. DMs seemed to be trained to be very “political” and beat around the bush when it comes to problems with the employees. DMs tend to tell the whole team to not do something when they’re only talking about one person. They will not talk to you directly or give you any write ups or warnings, just suddenly surprise you with a termination. Low Pay for the expectations that Public Storage has for property managers. For example, you are expected to get as many move ins as possible, try to get as many 5-star reviews while also having to stage units, keep the property and toilets clean every day, all alone. You are also responsible for items that need to be delivered to the office if we run out, check security cameras when needed for important reasons. We have to be exterminators when it comes to critters and rodents and just clean them up! Auctions are finalized in the office with us and the units are not cleaned out, it’s considered abandoned goods, and we have to clean them out and usually it’s heavy or dirty things. On top of all of this, your own coworkers will judge you and talk about your inadequacies all the time to the DM. You have to make 100s of late payment calls and receive calls constantly about people’s rent being raised automatically and we have to console them repeatedly saying the same things over and over and feeling sorry that Public Storage can be scummy in their business practice. You will get looked down upon if you’re unable to reach monthly goals and get “coached” to do better. The management and corporate as a whole just seem heartless and very political and are so “Public Storage is my life!” whatever is best for business. These people really live and breathe this job and see you as just another pawn that can be replaced and we’re expected to do all the dirty work. Monthly in person meetings and lots of video chat meetings showing expectations and goals with charts. White women with a sprinkle of black women employees and they’re all catty and disingenuous but put a great fake smile and manipulate you into believing they’re good! You typically work after someone the next day and have to pick up some slack sometimes if they left work for you. Near impossible to move up in the company and raises will be super rare and very minimal as a spit in the face. There are so much more tiny details that make working here insufferable that I want to fit all in here, but please avoid working here.

Pros

Public Storage is a great place to work and grow your career. I’m surrounded by talented leaders who are supportive, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in developing their teams. The company has a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, which creates an environment where employees can succeed and make an impact. What excites me most is that Public Storage is in a significant growth phase. It’s an energizing time to be part of the organization, with opportunities to contribute to meaningful initiatives, take on new challenges, and help shape the future of the business. The company continues to invest in its people, processes, and growth strategy, making it an excellent place for those who are looking to develop professionally while being part of a winning team. If you’re looking for a company with strong leadership, career advancement opportunities, and a clear vision for the future, Public Storage is a fantastic place to be.

Cons

Cons: As Public Storage continues to grow, the pace of the business can be very fast. There are often multiple initiatives, priorities, and opportunities happening simultaneously, which requires strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt quickly. Success in this environment depends on being able to effectively prioritize, manage competing demands, and stay focused on the highest-impact work. While the pace can be challenging at times, it also creates tremendous opportunities for growth, learning, and career development.
