Pros

Publix is entirely owned by its employees. Each year you recieve stock and dividends. You also recieve two weeks bonus pay for Christmas (after five years), inventory bonus' four times a year and a pretty good dental, vision and medical plan. You are generally treated with respect and common courtesy. For the most part, it is a joy to go to work. Every five years, you are invited to a banquet to celebrate your time with the company. You also get to choose a reward from a catalog. Advancement is easy if you have the desire and the company is financially sound. They are constantly opening stores and expanding.

Cons

Publix expects you to place them at the forefront of your life. Being an "owner" (stockholder) of the company, you are expected to be available at any and all times for any task, regardless of your position. With the company expanding as fast as it is, there are times when people are promoted to fill positions who shouldnt be. I worry that with the company becoming as large as it is, that the precepts set forth by Mr. George will soon be cast to the side in the name of profit. God Bless You Mr. George! You are sorely missed.

Pros

Amazing 401K, free stock after one year of employment, health insurance is very good for part-time employees if only getting it for yourself, management always approves time off requests, hours are always available, will work around school schedules, tuition reimbursement program, will reimburse you for gas for work-related expenses as needed and will put you in a hotel as needed for work-related reasons that are more than 50 miles from your home.

Cons

Not every store is the same, some stores are run better than others, some managers look down upon people with disabilities, and some see people with disabilities the same as someone without disabilities, they are very big about favoritism, you have to work a lot to earn a vacation, the company does not give out sick time and full-time gets the most benefits and is next to impossible to get full-time. Also, you practically have to be a former employee with a clean record or related in some way to a current employee to get a job with the company though Kentucky Publix's don't quite function that way.
