Pros

Publix has never laid off a single employee. Decent benefits. Employee-owned, but you have to put in 4+ years to really receive any of the stock benefits. Charlotte Division office has a great office culture. Pay is acceptable, but nothing to write home about. Company is rapidly growing in the CLT division, so there is a ton of opportunity to move up in the stores.

Cons

As an admin in the corporate office, you will never progress, never be considered for promotion. If you want to promote, even to corporate positions, you must work in the stores, starting at the bottom, which means retail hours, retail life, and retail pay. The stock benefits are nice, but you have to dedicate 4+ years of your life to receive that benefit. Vacation for the first 3 years is only 2 weeks, less than that in your first year--no exceptions. Upper management is very much the "good ole' boys club" and nepotism is common down in Lakeland.

Pros

Good compensation including not just standard pay, but also end of year bonus 80 hours for hourly associates, 8% of your annual earnings granted to you in free company stock thru which quarterly dividends are paid, ok 401k, and gift card and other associate coupons. Good stability and growth. Good company culture.

Cons

Can be slow and resistant to change. Uses some antiquated systems and software that should have been replaced years ago. Does some things that don't make sense. Some managers can be good, while others not very good. Although these cons may be true for a lot of companies. All roads eventually lead to Lakeland where they are headquartered. Geography can be a big one if you are not a Florida native. If you don't want to live in Florida for some legitimate reasons, there can be limited job options in other states, especially if you aren't interested in retail or warehouse jobs. Standard retail negatives about not having a lot of holidays off.
