Pros

In our current economy there isn't much to offer the average worker. However, Working at Publix is a good experience so far. It is not easy to work for Publix. There are no perfect jobs and work is work. You have many options to advance but it's competitive and once you move up, the more responsibilities and hours are demanded from you. You need to understand that Publix will take care of you, but at a cost Alot of your time if you become a manager. They do 5 12 hour shifts usually. We work holidays and serve our communities in many ways. Most customers are decent. A fair amount are entitled and spoiled by Publix policy. Managers can be very good or very bad. Thankfully they switch managers around every few years. Your co workers and managers can make you love or hate your job. Every store is different. Some stores are awesome to work for. Others not so much. If you are at a store you don't like, I'd transfer to another store. Overall, decent benefits and opportunities. I know plenty of people who became successful working at Publix. Just put in the time. Don't complain and put your head down and go to work. Make money, help people, go home and live life.

Cons

Long hours, stressful at times. Demanding workloads. Entitled customers.

Pros

Good compensation including not just standard pay, but also end of year bonus 80 hours for hourly associates, 8% of your annual earnings granted to you in free company stock thru which quarterly dividends are paid, ok 401k, and gift card and other associate coupons. Good stability and growth. Good company culture.

Cons

Can be slow and resistant to change. Uses some antiquated systems and software that should have been replaced years ago. Does some things that don't make sense. Some managers can be good, while others not very good. Although these cons may be true for a lot of companies. All roads eventually lead to Lakeland where they are headquartered. Geography can be a big one if you are not a Florida native. If you don't want to live in Florida for some legitimate reasons, there can be limited job options in other states, especially if you aren't interested in retail or warehouse jobs. Standard retail negatives about not having a lot of holidays off.
