Pros
The only real positive at this point is the legacy of what the brand used to be. Pura Vida once had a strong consumer, loyalty and a meaningful mission, but over the last year the brand has been in a steep decline. E-commerce sales have been falling rapidly and the sense of momentum that once made the company exciting has largely disappeared
Cons
The private equity firm that acquire the company in early 2025 is not what they claim to be. They often talk about valuing people and creating a “family-like”environment, but their actions say something very different. At their core, they operate like a typical PE firm focused on short-term financials rather than long-term brand health or employee stability.
A major layoff occurred in February 2025. The remaining employees were offered retention bonuses and told to stay committed, avoid job, searching, and trust the new leadership. Despite those promises roughly half of those same employees were laid off again in October. During that period some of the people laid off in February or even brought back, only to be laid off again in October. This cycle created an overwhelming sense of distrust and instability.
After the February layoffs, the remaining employees were already stretched thin. Many were suddenly responsible for multiple people’s jobs without additional support or realistic expectations. The October layoffs intensified this even further, leaving an even smaller team carrying an overwhelming workload with no clear strategy or direction - or any change of this in sight.
The entire product team was eliminated with the October layoff, leaving, no real plan for innovation or future product . The company is sitting on massive amounts of old, stagnant inventory due to long standing planning and purchasing issues. Unfortunately, the person responsible for many of these ongoing problems remains in a key role, and employees have repeatedly expressed concerns about their leadership style, decision-making, and general reliability. This has created a work environment where people are hesitant to speak openly and feel unsupported and disregarded.
It’s genuinely sad to see where the brand is heading what once was a vibrant growing company has become a place to defined by instability poor planning and repeated broken promises. If you’re considering joining take the red flag seriously. Ask direct questions about financial health, long-term plans, and leadership decisions - because reality inside the company is far different from the picture they try to paint.
