Pros
Getting to make a difference in the clients lives and helping to motivate, inspire and encourage them in their recovery. The best part is watching them grow. I met some incredible people through this job, I am grateful for the opportunity that they gave me. Pyramid looks past gaps in employment history, criminal record, etc and will give you a chance to show them how you’ve changed your life for the better.
Cons
They did not pay a living wage, and there is a lot of employee turnover. The clients feel like they don’t matter and their recovery doesn’t matter because nobody seems to care, some clients had several different counselors leave during their stay. This affects the clients, it affects their recovery, and it’s not part of a healing environment. There is minimal security, minimal staff, and it is a very high stress job sometimes. in my time here every employee I encountered felt overworked and underpaid. Not for the weak of heart and not a job for someone without empathy for substance users.
