Pros
It feels good to make a difference in peoples' lives. Most staff are there for the right reasons. Health insurance (medical, dental, and vision) is available for full-time staff at reasonable rates.
Cons
All departments that work the closest to the clients (techs, counselors, nurses, housekeeping, etc.) are understaffed and overworked. Most departments are underpaid. The last two years we went without raises, although we were given a Christmas bonus this year. Employee satisfaction surveys clearly show low morale year after year - so much so that they have to provide incentives for employees to simply complete the survey in the first place. Accountability is poor; expect to do more work because an employee refuses to do parts of his/her job without fear of repercussion. Also expect administrative staff to make changes that greatly affect how you do your job without involving you in the decision-making process. Then expect those same administrative staff to wonder why employees feel their opinions don't matter.
