Pros
Lots of opportunities to learn and gain varied experience More specialized IT roles seem like they enjoy their work and how they're treated. Support and IOC, however, do not.
Cons
Management is the make-or-break factor for every team. My own team had a manager who didn't know what our job entailed in the day-to-day and would frequently yell at individuals or at the team as a whole, but offered no help or solutions to any problems. His boss helped us more than he did. He refused to personally test a new monitoring system before implementing it in production, despite its flaws being pointed out, and it caused an outage of the system during enterprise maintenance--a completely preventable circumstance. You can tell many in DevOps are overworked, although I personally enjoy lots of work Too much change. New people implement new systems which are immediately scrapped once they leave in a year, or are simply not maintained moving forward. Support roles have to navigate a Frankenstein's monster of IT systems. People don't work there long, and they take their knowledge with them Highly competitive and political between teams and departments. Usually different teams speak ill of each other.
