Pros

Relatively good pay and health insurance compared to the power industry as a whole. Can be great engineers on staff to learn from if they stick around long enough.

Cons

Department organization and management is in complete chaos all caused by high turnover rates. Months at a time without a direct manager much less a clear reporting structure for who is leading projects or technical leads in place to ask questions to. VC funding to fuel expansion will be the companies downfall. You can't buy enough smaller engineering firms to replace engineers leaving. The writing is on the wall when engineer owners in upper management are replaced by MBA and investment firm types.

Pros

You get a lot of the benefits of a much smaller business - knowing your teammates, feeling as though you're making strong individual contributions, and having flexibility to develop your role to fit your strengths - while having the support network, career progression and opportunities of a much larger company.

Cons

Teams can feel like islands that don't really know what other teams are doing, or what other strengths already exist within the company to be leveraged.

Job stability, depending on management flexible schedule.

Cons

No bonus structure, work harder, do not get compensated. Constant changes in organization.
