Pros

A new lab so there is the opportunity to guide development and gain valuable experience/training from very nice instrument company representatives. None of the usual STAT/ER friction with hospitals. LOTS OF UNAVOIDABLE DOWNTIME.

Cons

I completed all of the tasks that were assigned to me. Much of the lab was/is being installed and validated. The culture felt very corporate/cut-throat and people rarely accepted responsibility for their role in issues in order to look good to higher-ups. A daily game of trumpet your achievements while sabotaging others. Management/IT doesn't seem really interested in this lab....interpersonal issues and tech problems aren't professionally addressed. It's very hard to get an email response from anyone. A man-child coworker is a huge mess to deal with even though he's "senior". I don't recommend working here unless this is usually an easy job for you and you can cover yourself against coworkers with selfish intentions. Came with the territory as a former travel contract MLS. The current crop of coworkers are kinda weak...with a 1-2 FTE workload (10-20 samples/day) for 5-6 staff there was still constant complaining and backstabbing. The building had/has a rat problem and smelled like a bankrupt pet store. There were rats audibly chewing holes in the ceiling, having babies, and dying. It smelled terrible. A supervisor never reported I concern I had to HR and believed the perpetrator over me.
