Pros

Culture - REI has probably the strongest culture I have experienced in my years of working with technology organizations. Engaged, collaborative, rewarding, supporting, and caring. The 4 years in a row 'Top Work Places' recognition is a testament to the organization culture. Growth opportunities - REI has showcased incredible year on year growth with existing customers and winning new customers. This demonstrates REI's growth appetite. To sustain and scale this growth, REI provides numerous opportunities to its employees - new role, lateral move to new projects, higher responsibilities, upskilling, project rotation. Executive Leadership - REI amazing journey so far is largely attributed to it's former and current executive leadership. The REI Leadership puts incredible focus on customer mission and how what we do positively impacts the mission. They have a pretty well-laid out short term and long term strategy on which federal agencies should we focus, how do we grow REI's brand in the industry, how do we enhance our existing offerings and build new ones.

Cons

As with any and every growing organization, REI is learning what it takes to scale from a mid-size to a large organization. This is causing the organization to be in the waters that they haven't been before, making choices they haven't made before, and having to make quick decisions. This is going to test and validate the organizational agility, communication, collaboration, and the ability to manage change.

Pros

Ceo is good. Good benefits. 401k, medical plan is good. Decent pto policy. Wfh and remote work policies are good You get to work on mission critical systems and can see impact.

Cons

There is no respect of your personal time. Some dev/delivery Managers have no engineering background except of a degree and they cannot offer solutions. Hence, the dependency on team is so high for every little thing. Folks higher up in the chain engage in activities that violate code of conduct and ethics. Work spouse are common place here. Some people are home grown and in leadership positions and do not know how to handle crisis, and large programs. Some leaders get to move around easily when they cannot handle work complexity, and pressure and due to this genuine folks have to suffer (in short rules bend behind scenes) (open bias). Leadership will stand for their favorites [bias] and save them even after failing to deliver and innumerable customer escalations. Few architects shout and believe they know it all.
