Thank you for your feedback. At REI, the two most important principles guiding the development of health insurance benefits are:
First, we want our health insurance benefits to be better than the typical competitors (market-based). We work with a host of benefits “brokers” who share their research on what companies in our industry segment(s) are offering their employees. We use the industry data provided by these brokers to assess our own benefits package, item by item, looking for trends that might give us insights into where we are compared to industry standards.
Second, we listen carefully to our employees – through many different channels, asking them what they want regarding cost, coverage, providers network, etc. We then incorporate that into the choice of our health insurance benefits.
Currently, 81% of employees at REI have active coverage with REI’s medical, vision, and dental plans. We believe employees choose REI’s health insurance plans because they are reasonably priced and rich in benefits to subscribers and their families.
