Pros

REI has a great company culture and quite good work life balance.

Cons

REI hasn't innovated in a while and likely won't. Company leadership is aging and tends to promote via family, plus stubbornly stuck on the idea of going back to work in person (while continuing to hire remote). Maternity leave practically nonexistent.

Thank you for this candid review and for your encouraging description of our positive culture and work life balance! These are certainly some of the aspects of REI that employees love about working here. As you probably have already heard (since this review), we were glad to announce a significant increase to our Parental Leave policy, in line with industry benchmarks. Thank you for raising your voice on this important topic! Your reflections regarding innovation are appreciated. We know this is certainly an urgent priority, as we strive to sustain the deep mission impact we are known for among our public sector customers. Our most recent Top Workplaces survey gave us well-above-average scores for doing things "efficiently," though pushing beyond this to truly transformational innovation remains a perpetual challenge in government contracting. While we are pushing forward in many areas like AI/ML, Automation, Low-Code, Agile, DevSecOps, and much more, we know there is always more to be done. You may be encouraged to watch the recent recordings of the annual Veer Bhartiya Team Impact Award, as finalists present their innovative and impactful solutions. Again, your advocacy here is most welcome! When it comes to promotions, we intentionally strive to fill leadership roles with experienced, high-performing team members who know our customers and the REI Way the best, so that we can continue delivering exceptional results. As for hybrid work, we continue to iterate our approach to balancing in-person engagement, hybrid working, and remote hiring. Our strategy has prioritized team-based decision-making regarding in-office presence, competitive hiring in and beyond our region, and culture-building within teams and across the company. We encourage you to continue raising your voice as we navigate the path forward. Thank you, again, for your feedback and we trust you will enjoy a long and satisfying career delivering mission impact, together!

Pros

Ceo is good. Good benefits. 401k, medical plan is good. Decent pto policy. Wfh and remote work policies are good You get to work on mission critical systems and can see impact.

Cons

There is no respect of your personal time. Some dev/delivery Managers have no engineering background except of a degree and they cannot offer solutions. Hence, the dependency on team is so high for every little thing. Folks higher up in the chain engage in activities that violate code of conduct and ethics. Work spouse are common place here. Some people are home grown and in leadership positions and do not know how to handle crisis, and large programs. Some leaders get to move around easily when they cannot handle work complexity, and pressure and due to this genuine folks have to suffer (in short rules bend behind scenes) (open bias). Leadership will stand for their favorites [bias] and save them even after failing to deliver and innumerable customer escalations. Few architects shout and believe they know it all.
