New engineers are assigned more-tenured engineers to report to. There isn't an emphasis on holistic growth from them, since they're also trying to get their own jobs done. Senior management is from a research background and will scrutinize your work thoroughly. The general tone can seem harsh. Culture is pretty nonexistent, after-hours work is common, and there are often information silos with very little knowledge sharing between teammates.
